About MICHAEL

Michael Janus has been practicing law for over 30 years and is licensed to practice in both New York and New Jersey. A former IRS estate and gift tax attorney, Michael holds an advanced Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in Taxation from New York University, on top of the Juris Doctor law degree he earned from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. 

 Michael represents buyers, sellers and lenders in residential and commercial  real estate transactions. He is also experienced and skilled in representing Landlords and Tenants in commercial leases. He recognizes that buying or selling a home or entering into a lease for their business are significant lifetime events and that his clients need to feel secure and comfortable in those transactions and strives to give the client the attention and support they deserve. His background in the personal injury field helps him appreciate the emotional attachment a client has to the purchase or sale of a property. Michael is committed to advancing his professional abilities and the stature of the legal community in New York and is an active member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association , the Nassau County Bar Association and American Association of Justice. He is also a devoted family man who lives on Long Island with his wife and two children and Havashu. He empathizes with his clients and understands the impact an accident can have on a family. He works hard to make matters right and help families put themselves back together after a serious accident has disrupted their lives.  

 Prior to establishing his own law practice in 2010, Michael worked as an Associate Attorney and equity partner in a major NYC plaintiff’s personal injury law firm. In opening his own firm, Michael decided to take the skills and big-firm experience he gained and translate them into a smaller firm practice where he could more directly serve his clients’ needs and foster close attorney-client relationships instead of the more impersonal, “corporate” feel of big firm law. At Janus Law, P.C., Michael is able to put more attention and focus on each matter and how each client is doing. His attention to detail and grasp of the effect an accident has on a client has led to many successes, including six-figure verdicts against negligent parties such as the City of New York and a taxi cab company and several settlements in excess of $1,000,000.00.  

Michael handles all aspects of his cases from intake through discovery and settlement or trial. His background and experience in litigation lead him to be called on by other attorneys to serve as their trial counsel when they have to go to court.
